What is Counselling?

Counselling is a process that can help us develop the self-awareness and capability to think and feel emotions, with clarity and understanding. Thinking and feeling are part of being human. There are times when the integration of these can become disconnected resulting in physical and psychological discomfort and pain. Each individual is unique in how they experience such physical and psychological pain. One thing is sure though, it can be debilitating and isolating to feel that you are alone with such distress. Consequently, life can become a challenge and reduce our capacity to experience joy and hope.

Counselling offers the opportunity to explore your thoughts and feelings, whilst supporting you to find a way to accept, or change, that which is causing your distress. The way we think can impact on our emotions, particularly after bereavement or life change events. We are not, however, here to tell you what to do. At times we may offer you reflections to consider, but ultimately it is you, with our support, that will find a future way of ‘being’ that is more comfortable for you.
